HTML or plain text - which format should I use?
When writing an email, you can choose between Plain text and HTML. Select the desired mode in the editor selector.
Plain-text email
A plain-text email contains only characters and line breaks. It is highly compatible, uses little data and is suitable for short or factual messages. Colors, fonts, images and clickable formatting are not available.HTML email
An HTML email can contain paragraphs, lists, font formatting and links. It is useful when a message needs a clear visual structure. The recipient's email program may display it differently.Which option is right?
- Plain text: For simple messages, technical information and maximum compatibility.
- HTML: For structured information, invitations, instructions and formatted messages.
Can I switch modes later?
Yes. Select the desired mode in the selector at the top right. Check the content afterwards, because formatting may be removed or simplified when switching between HTML and plain text.Recommendation: Use HTML with restraint. A clear and readable message matters more than many colors or fonts.
If you generally prefer HTML, enable Prefer HTML in the general settings. You can change the mode for individual emails at any time in the compose window.
You can add attachments in either mode with Add in the Attachments field. Local files and files from eclipso Drive are supported; local files can also be added by drag and drop. Confirm a selection in the dialog with OK.
